Terre Haute House (Prairie House)

The Terre Haute House was a historic hotel built in downtown Terre Haute. Originally named the Prairie House by its founder Chauncey Rose, the hotel was a prime destination for many famous and some infamous travelers. During the time of Terre Haute’s notorious Red Light District, it is believed that such gangsters as Al Capone and John Dillinger frequently stayed at the Terre Haute House on their runs between Chicago and St. Louis.
