Built for US Steel managers, the Ambassador Apartments were one of Gary’s premier apartments. The building was located in the Jefferson Park neighborhood on Monroe Street, south of the 5th Avenue apartments. Built in 1928 during the boom in apartment building in Gary, it featured limestone friezes and ornamentation. The 68-unit building was said to be one of the city’s tallest building. It was abandoned in 1985. After several attempts to revitalize and renovate the building, one as late as 1995, it was finally demolished in 2015.
