Constructed in May 1906, this was Gary’s first office building. It housed Gary’s postal facilities as well as the Land Company. The Land Company determined Gary’s street, block, and lot layout before any building took place. In addition to determining the shape of the future city, the Land Company also installed all utilities, built gas and electric plants and a sewer system, and donated lots for, among other things, schools, churches, a hospital, and municipal buildings.
