Luxury Imagined

General George Rogers Clark’s cabin, as it was imagined in this drawing for the 1895 book Conquest of the Northwest, may have been unusually large and luxurious, as depicted. However, contemporary accounts of visitors looking in at Clark through the windows suggest a small, modest residence more typical of frontier housing, but likely more comfortable than his servants’ home.
