Too Sick for Court

Single parents sometimes committed some of their children to an orphanage while retaining custody of others, at least for a time. When Rella Taylor’s husband deserted her in 1918, she brought Charles, 8, and Elnora, 4 to court for placement by the court, but her other children were too sick to attend court and remained home that day, according to the Evening News.
