In July 1994, the Howard County Historical Society celebrated the centennial of Haynes’ first test drive. The “Pioneer” automobile, on loan from the National Museum of American History, was exhibited in the Seiberling Carriage House with other early Haynes vehicles. Haynes was one of the few who designed from the ground up to build an automobile. This “Pioneer” was a prototype to test the concept, and amenities like brakes and lights were added later for production.
